What Thymosin Alpha-1 is
T cells, a key part of the immune system, mature in the thymus gland. Thymosin alpha-1 was among the first peptides described there, and a 2007 review sets out its role in the immune system, partly through the cells that recognise germs.
The same review says several countries use it as a medicine. The vial sold here is none of those medicines, and thymosin alpha-1 in this form is not approved for people.

Thymosin alpha-1 trials, large and small
In a randomized 2005 study, 56 people with long-term hepatitis B were given thymosin alpha-1 or interferon, an older medicine, and the researchers compared the two groups and their side effects.
In sepsis, the trials grew larger over time. A 2013 trial enrolled 361 adults in severe sepsis and counted deaths in those given it and in those who were not. Then a 2025 phase 3 trial, three times larger, with 1,106 sepsis patients and published in the BMJ, compared thymosin alpha-1 with a placebo and found no clear difference in deaths at 28 days.

Reading the small and large trials together
When trials of one compound differ in size, read the larger one alongside the smaller. The 2025 sepsis trial was three times larger than the 2013 one, used a placebo and found no clear difference in deaths at 28 days, which is why this page names both, side by side.

Got more questions about Thymosin Alpha-1?
Is thymosin alpha 1 the same as TB500?
No. Thymosin alpha-1 has 28 amino acids, while TB-500 is a short lab-made stretch taken from thymosin beta-4, a different protein. Both names came out of thymus research.
Which sepsis trials does this page name?
A 2013 trial of 361 adults in severe sepsis, and a 2025 phase 3 trial of 1,106 sepsis patients that compared it with a placebo and found no clear difference in deaths at 28 days.
What is the thymus?
The gland where T cells, a key part of the immune system, mature. Thymosin alpha-1 was first described there.
What are the differences between thymalin and thymosin alpha 1?
Thymosin alpha-1 is one peptide of 28 amino acids. Thymalin is a mix drawn from the thymus glands of animals, and it holds many small peptides.
What does thymosin alpha-1 cost?
Thymosin alpha-1 is 3,900,000 VND ($155 USD) per vial, or 390,000 VND ($15.50 USD) per mg of the peptide. Take five vials of thymosin alpha-1 and each is 2,808,000 VND ($111.60 USD).
